4 Reasons Why You Should Use Social Media Advertising

Today, I’m going to run you through 4 reasons why I think you should be considering social media advertising for your business. Now, I’ll hold my hands up. I’m probably a *little* bit biased on this one! But I would say hear me out and make your own call.

Reason 1 – Social Media Platforms Have The Audience

We all know social media is popular, but do you realise how many eyeballs they have on them every day?

The top 5 apps on Apple’s app store in 2019 were all social media apps. Showing the continued dominance they have in our lives.

Time spent on social media per day has increased by 22% in the UK between 2016 and 2019 taking the average up to 1 hour 50 minutes. Imagine what those figures are like now after lockdown!

And finally, 78% of the UK population over the age of 13 are active users of social media. That’s roughly 4 in every 5 people!

So to summarise what I’m trying to get at here is, 4 out of 5 people are looking at social media each day for an average of just under 2 hours. An amount of time which could continue to increase going forward.

Reason 2 – Social Media Advertising Is An Option For Any Business

Social media advertising can cost as little or as much as you like.

Take Facebook for example. Their minimum spend is £1 per day.

Now, I wouldn’t recommend having a £1 budget, but it gives you an idea. You can adjust your budget to fit your goals and your bank balance which is great news for most small business owners.

When you look at other forms of advertising, you will see that more traditional outlets are much more restrictive with a set pricing structure in place.

Not only is social media advertising more flexible, but it can also be a lot more cost-effective. A standard way to compare advertising costs is through CPM (Cost Per Mille). This is simply the cost of reaching 1,000 people.

Social media can be around the £5 mark, whereas radio is nearer £7.50 and TV is over £15.

Reason 3 – Pinpoint Your Ideal Customer

Although there is an element of targeting within more traditional marketing methods, it’s not on the level of social media.

For example, Toolstation could place an advert during the ad break for a DIY programme, or Ed Sheeran could promote his latest album during the chart show on a commercial radio station.

However, social media allows adverts to be more specific and accurate.

You could select 18-25-year-olds living in Yorkshire who are interested in snowboarding or 50-64-year-olds who are retired and interested in investment.

Reason 4 – The Results Speak For Themselves

Through the use of the inbuilt analytics tools provided by the various social media outlets, you can see the real impact your ads had. Not predicted impacts. Not verbal feedback from customers. Hard facts and figures.

How many people saw it? How many people clicked the ad? Who saw it? Which devices did they use?

This kind of data can be much harder to get your hands on with more traditional forms of advertising.

…it’s affordable.

…you can target your ideal customer.

…and, you can track the results.
